Home Bible Fellowships (Home Groups)
What are Home Bible Fellowships?
HBFs are small groups (6-15 people) that meet in various homes in Okotoks and area on various nights of the week. Three elements make up all of our HBFs:
1. Community - God Himself exists in community. And He designed the church to be in communion with other people as well. This is why we have all the “one another” commands in the New Testament. We believe this kind of community can happen best in the context of Home Groups.
2. Bible - God’s Word is the basis of community. We strive to encourage and exhort one another using the inspired, authoritative, infallible Word of God.
3. Care - Our desire is that Home Groups become the first level of care. By that, we mean that when a person or couple experiences joy or pain, the first people that will either celebrate with them or comfort them, will be the people in their Home Group. These are the people that will pray for them and if needed, ensure that physical and logistical needs are taken care of.
Most groups study the sermon note studies which are handed out Sunday morning in the bulletin. If you miss a Sunday the notes can also be downloaded from the Audio messages download section on the home page.
S.O.A.P. is a recommended Bible study method for study groups, as well as for personal studies.
S for Scripture
Take time reading the Bible and allow God to speak to you. Highlight, underline or place a mark in the margin of your bible next to the scriptures that stand out or catch you attention. When you are done, reread the verses you marked.
O for Observation
What do you think God is saying to you in this scripture? Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and reveal Jesus to you. What insights have you gained?
A for Application
Personalize what you have read by asking yourself how it applies to your life right now. Perhaps it is instruction, encouragement, revelation of a new promise or corrections for a particular area of your life. Write how this scripture can apply to you today.
P for Prayer
This can be as simple as asking God to help you use this scripture, or it may be a greater insight on what He may be revealing to you. Remember, prayer is a two-way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say!
